Dan Redwater

Dan Redwater lives deep in the forests of British Columbia, Canada, with his wife, two dogs, two horses, three ducks, and a mess of chickens. He enjoys taking moonlit walks with nothing but the stars and the sounds of the woods for company. He has experienced a lot of strange things on these walks, but nothing compared to what he sees when he closes his eyes and lets his mind wander.

Okay, now that we’ve got that official stuff out of the way, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit my site. My name is Dan. I write stuff. Stuff that hints at a world full of unknowns. A lot of people think we have history all figured out, that there are no more places left to explore on this planet, no mysteries left to solve.

Those people are idiots.

And even if they weren’t, who would want to live in a place where nothing mind-numbingly strange ever happened? In my world, weird stuff happens all the time. I hope you’ll come visit. If you do, bring gloves, some snacks, and maybe a flashlight. A lot happens at night.

I write speculative fiction, mostly dark, contemporary fantasy thrillers, but not horror. Cheap scares don’t do anything for me nor do over the top stories with an excess of magic. My favorite Stephen King (Peter Straub) novel is The Talisman and my favorite movie is The Fellowship of the Ring. Notice I didn’t say The Lord of the Rings? I’m drawn to journeys. I like taking a strong character and putting her on a road littered with intrigue, danger, and a little bit of something that shouldn’t exist in the rational world we are told we live in. And if that journey can pass through a wild forest of some kind, all the better.

I also like to laugh and I’m told I have a good sense of humor. If I do, that comes from my dad. He was famous for his laugh. He passed away a few years ago, but almost the very next day a good-natured crow appeared in my yard, cackling at me every time it flew overhead. Then a family of crows moved in and all of them laugh at me everyday as I go about my chores. And I can’t help but laugh back. I hope no one’s watching.

Even though my stories usually have an extraordinary or paranormal element to them, I try to make my worlds as realistic as I can and don’t shy away from violence or other conflict, but sex scenes are always behind closed doors. I would give myself a PG15 rating if there was such a thing.

I live on twenty acres of forested land butted up against a 150-square-mile parcel of Crown Land (does that make the Queen my neighbor?) in a remote part of British Columbia, Canada. Bears, cougars, moose, deer, owls, eagles and skunks are constantly dropping by to say “hi” at the most inconvenient times. My surroundings are a constant source of inspiration and I’m so, so lucky to have a wife that encourages my constant ramblings and far-off stares into the woods.

Life is an adventure, a journey, and I’ve found myself in a forest. I think I’ll wander around here for a bit and see what happens.

Thank you so much for coming along…

Take care out there,

Dan.
